Green bonds were created as an instrument to earmark finance for climate and environmental projects. Since the issue of the first green bond in 2007, the green bond market has been growing. In 2019, the value of green bonds listed on the Euronext stock exchange was over 44.3 billion U.S. dollars. Since 2012, Paris was the leading venue for green bonds listing with a total of almost 94 billion U.S. dollars between 2012 and July 2021.

Figures include green bonds and bonds linked to sustainability; social bonds are excluded.
