Chile: sales growth rate of selected department stores 2019

Over the course of 2019, six major department stores in Chile registered negative quarterly growth rates of same-store sales (SSS), in comparison to the same period of the previous year. In the last quarter of 2019, Hites and Tricot were the most affected stores by this general negative trend, with same-store sales declines of 15.4 and 15 percent, respectively. La Polar and Cencosud, on the other hand, saw their largest drop in sales in the first quarter of 2019, whereas Falabella experienced negative but relatively small decreases in sales throughout that whole year.
On the other hand, Ripley was the only department store that saw two quarterly SSS increases in 2019, of 0.5 percent in Q1 and 0.7 percent in Q3. In the third quarter of 2019, Hites also recorded the highest increase among all six mentioned stores and its only positive growth rate that year.
