The number of somatic in-patients in hospitals in Norway decreased for both men and women throughout the period from 2012 to 2020, while the number of female in-patients remained higher than the number of male in-patients throughout the period. In 2012, the number of in-patients was 255 thousand men and 323 thousand women. In 2020, the number decreased to 218 thousand men and 272 thousand women.
