Due to the coronavirus outbreak, it is estimated that the revenue losses within the tourism industry will be more than one billion euros per month in Flanders. As one of the protective measurements against the coronavirus, Belgian government closed down all hotels, restaurants and cafes until May, 2020. However, due to the daily increase of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases, it is likely to be extended. As of May 28, 2020, Belgian authorities revealed that over 57.8 thousand people had been tested positive for the coronavirus. From a regional perspective, most cases were reported in Flanders with over 32 thousand cases.

Belgium has multiple governments, based on the language groups found in the country. The numbers mentioned here are from Flanders, the Dutch-speaking region. The source does not explicilty mention why it added the Brussels-Capital Region but excluded the southern French-speaking region of Wallonia. Note, however, that this is not uncommon in Belgium. Some numbers are not always available on a national level, but only on a regional level.
