In 2023, 7.3 percent of young individuals in Italy with tertiary educational attainment were unemployed. More specifically, the percentage refers to people aged 25 to 34 years who achieved a university, doctoral, or specialization degree. The unemployment rate rose after the financial crisis hit Italy in 2008, reaching a maximum of 17.7 percent in 2014.  Youth unemployment mostly affects the southern regions of the country. In 2023, Calabria, Sicily, and Campania were the regions with the largest share of young unemployed individuals.
