The tobacco industry in Spain generated approximately 15 million U.S. dollars in 2023, with cigarettes and rolling tobacco making up the largest sales. The Canary Islands were responsible for the entire production of cigarettes, while Spain's mainland territory and the islands both took part in the manufacture of cigars and cigarillos. Exports play an important role in the industry as well, with Germany and Portugal being the leading export destinations in 2022.
Spain has a significant tobacco culture, which has been on the decline due to awareness of the health risks associated with smoking and stricter regulations implemented to numerous countries in the European Union. In 2020, the number of daily smokers in Spain decreased exponentially, and the number has remained low, although there was a slight increase in 2022.
