In 2020, the tourism expenditure in Italy is expected to drop significantly due to the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. A forecast from March 2020, considering a scenario in which the emergency lasts until October 1, 2020, reveals that the tourism expenditure of accommodations services in Italy could decrease by 22.5 percent compared to 2019. In this sense, accommodations services would lose roughly 5.9 billion euros. However, it is estimated that the catering sector will record the highest loss of tourism expenditure in 2020.
