During a representative survey of the British adult population, undertaken between the 16th and 17th March 2020, respondents were asked about their preferred approach to dealing with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on any sports leagues, competitions or tournaments that have been suspended or paused.
The responses to this survey have subsequently been categorised into into two groups characterised by the NRS social grades of the respondents. The NRS social grades are a system of demographic classification used in the United Kingdom. The grades are grouped here into ABC1 and C2DE; these are taken to equate to middle class and working class, respectively.
For both social grade groups the largest share of the respondents hold the opinion that if the competition is suspended or paused for more than a month, it should be abandoned for this season or year, however the opinion is divided as to whether or not there should be winners or losers recognised with a larger share of respondents suggesting that there should be no winners or losers recognised. Within the C2DE social grade group 41 percent of respondents hold the opinion that the competition should be completed at a later date.
