In the time period from March 16 to 20 in 2020, the number of visitors to Shinjuku-ku area from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. declined by approximately 7.1 percent compared to the average number of visitors between February 3 to 7, 2020. Shinjuku-ku area is located in the middle of Tokyo Prefecture.
Due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in Japan, the government announced on February 26 that major cultural or sports events, such as concerts, must be cancelled for the coming two weeks. All the schools in the country were also closed until the beginning of April. In response to those measures, some companies in Japan, such as Fujitsu Ltd., suggested to their employees to work remotely from home.
