A statistic was developed by the source to calculate the overall online shopping activites for the online luxury industry in France, after the coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak, during the time period between the 24th of February and 29th of March 2020, compared to the numbers generated before the outbreak from January 6th to February 16th 2020. The results for the week up until the 15th of March, in terms of online traffic, showed a downfall of approximately 43 percent. The average duration of a session declined by around seven percent and the page visits per sessions by around four percent.
The following week, the conversion rate encountered a small improvement of just over two percent and the average page session and page visit per session went from a negative to a positive development.
During the week between the 23rd and 29th of March, the overall traffic dropped by around 44 percent compared to the first weeks in January and the conversion rate as well as the average session duration had improved a little, compared to the previous week.
For all product categories analyzed by the source, luxury products saw the second biggest loss up until the 22nd of March, in terms of total conversion as compared to general retailers and grocers, who encountered a rise of almost 154 percent up until the 22nd of March, which fell down to about 86 percent for the following week.
