As of July 2019, there were 48 off-shore supply ships that were powered by battery, either in operation or on order. While liquefied natural gas (LNG) was the most commonly used alternative marine fuel in 2019, the maritime shipping industry, and seaborne activities in general, are expected to shift towards using carbon-neutral fuels in the future.
