Fuel consumption of heavy vehicles in France 2004-2018

The source wanted to assess the average fuel consumption of a heavy vehicle in liters per 100 kilometers in France from 2004 to 2018, according to the type of vehicle. In 2018, a heavy vehicle consumed an average of around 33 liters to cover a distance of 100 kilometers. Buses and coaches consumed more than 31 liters for the same distance that year.
A heavy goods vehicle is a road vehicle weighing more than 3.5 tons and is used for the transport of goods, while buses and coaches, also weighing more than 3.5 tons, are used for the transport of people. Their driving requires specific permits and the circulation of these heavy vehicles is subject to regulations concerning in particular driving times. In addition, the average fuel consumption of light commercial vehicles is logically lower.
