According to a survey conducted by Ipsos, around 27 percent of the Malaysian respondents stated that they strongly supported requiring stores and restaurants to inform consumers about the endangered status of fish that they sell. In contrast, only one percent stated they strongly opposed this. Malaysia is the biggest seafood consumer in Southeast Asia and the fisheries sector plays an important role to the national economy. However, Malaysia's marine natural resources are currently declining due to overfishing and illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
