U.S. consumer attitudes to shopping mall visits due to coronavirus 2020, by age

Almost sixty percent of U.S. consumers, aged 65 years or older, reported that they were either somewhat or much less likely to go to a shopping mall because of the coronavirus pandemic as of March 2020. Interestingly this figure stood at 47 percent for consumers, aged 18 to 29, for whom the virus is considered to be less life threatening.

The number of cases in the U.S. is growing steadily and it is expected to continue to rise substantially in the next days. As of March 24, 2020, there had been over five hundred deaths as a result of the disease. The state with the highest amount of cases is New York, with the city of New York recently enacting the closure of all nonessential businesses.

The European region has reported the most cases worldwide, with almost 200,000 cases as of March 24, 2020. As of March 25, 2020, the total number of cases worldwide amounted to over 423,000, with China, Italy, and the United States having the most cases of COVID-19.
