As of March 17, 2020, party affiliation did not seem to influence U.S. adults’ views regarding whether the federal government should shut down public gatherings of a few hundred people or more to reduce the risk of COVID-19, with 53 percent of Democrats and 50 percent of Republicans surveyed supporting this option. It was a similar story with most other measures. For example, 46 percent of Democrats and 41 percent of Republicans supported the closure of public schools.
