According to a survey by Ipsos, 31 percent of respondents in Malaysia stated that they bought fish several times a week, whereas three percent said that they do not buy any. Malaysia is the biggest seafood consumer in Southeast Asia and the fisheries sector plays an important role to the national economy. However, Malaysia's marine natural resources are currently declining due to overfishing and illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
