This data shows how many people dined at restaurants in 2022, 2021, and 2020, as compared to 2019.

For year-over-year comparisons, OpenTable compares the same days of the week to the same day of the week in 2019 (not the same date). For example, they would compare Tuesday of week 11 in 2021 to Tuesday of week 11 in 2019. The dataset is based on a sample of approximately 20,000 restaurants that provide OpenTable with information on all of their inventory in states or metros with 50+ restaurants on the OpenTable network. This sample of restaurants typically accounts for a majority of the seated online reservations.

2020 was a leap year and therefore includes 2/29

Starting on February 18th 2022, the source updated the dataset from January 1, 2022 onward to compare seated diners from 2022 to 2019 (year over three year). Data from 2021 continues to be compared to 2019 (year over two year), and data from 2020 continues to be compared to 2019 (year over year).
