Fuel economy or mileage was the leading factor influencing urban dwellers' car purchase decision across India according to the survey on urban mobility, with a 74 percent respondent share. Energy efficiency seemed to be a more important criteria while making a purchase decision. Furthermore, respondents rated congestion, pollution and climate change as key externalities in urban commuting, indicating a need for these issues to be addressed.

Respondents were from six metro cities, 16 tier one cities and 38 tier two cities.

Metro - population of over seven million
Tier one - population between 2 million and 7 million
Tier two - population between 0.1 million and 2 million
