Quality of infrastructure was a major barrier among women to use public transportation in India according to a survey on urban mobility. The problem of infrastructure quality was more prevalent in students and homemakers as per the survey. Compared to 53 percent of the female respondents unhappy with infrastructure, only 41 percent of the male respondents agreed with the statement, majority of them more unhappy with the frequency of the transport services.
Perceived barriers about using public transportation across India in 2019, by gender
Respondents were from six metro cities, 16 tier one cities and 38 tier two cities. 49 percent of respondents were male and 51 percent of respondents were female.

Metro - population of over seven million
Tier one - population between 2 million and 7 million
Tier two - population between 0.1 million and 2 million
