In a survey conducted in December 2019, approximately 17 percent of Japanese respondents agreed that with the 2020 Olympic Games being held in Tokyo, their personal interest in getting in contact with foreigners might increase. With another around 29 percent agreeing to the statement, close to 47 percent overall foresaw this effect of the 2020 Olympics on their personal mindset.
The Summer Olympics were scheduled to take place between 24 July and 9 August in 2020, being held for the second time in the Japanese capital.
