Death sentences handed by sessions courts India 2022, by nature of offence
The number of death sentences imposed by sessions courts across India for murder simpliciter amounted to 57 in 2022. There has been an upward spike in imposing capital punishment for crimes of this nature in recent years following the public outrage that spread across the south Asian nation on account of the brutal gangrape and murder of a female victim in the nation's capital city of Delhi in 2012. The various Sessions courts of India handed out around 165 capital punishments in that year.
