This statistic shows the evolution of greenhouse gas emissions due to the combustion of fuels by households in France from 2005 to 2016, in millions of tonnes of CO2 equivalent. In 2016, approximately 53 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent of greenhouse gases were emitted by French households as a result of fuel use.
Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the combustion of fuels by French households from 2005 to 2016
(in million tonnes of CO2 equivalent)
* Teq CO2 = tonnes of CO2 equivalent = the global warming potential of a greenhouse gas, calculated by equivalence with an amount of CO2 which would have the same warming potential
Values have been rounded .
The sectors indicated by the source do not correspond to the NACE codes, but to the sectors defined by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC, IPCC in English).
The source adds the following information: “Standardized reporting framework, IPCC 2006” “Annual greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are estimated and reported under the framework convention of United Nations on climate change (UNFCCC), the Kyoto Protocol and Decision 525/2013 / EC. The so-called Kyoto basket includes six gases: carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), hydrofluorocarbons (HFC), perfluorocarbons (PFC), and sulfur hexafluoride (SF6). The impact due to land use change and forestry is excluded from the GHG inventories. International aviation is included. The emissions are weighted by the global warming potential (GWP) corresponding to each of these greenhouse gases. To obtain the emissions in terms of tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent using their global warming potential, the following weighting factors are used for each of these greenhouse gases: CH4 = 25 and N2O = 298, NF3 = 17200 and SF6 = 22800. HFC and PFC include a large number of gases that have different PRPs. "
