On March 11, 2020, the Russian State Duma approved constitutional amendments proposed by Vladimir Putin and drafted by a working group, with 383 deputies voting for the changes and 43 abstaining after the third reading. The lower house of the Federal Assembly of Russia, or the parliament, held the second reading of the amendments a day earlier, during which Vladimir Putin's presidential terms were proposed to be reset.
The all-national voting on the amendments took place between June 25 and July 1, 2020; however, it was not legally required since the Constitution in Russia could be changed by the parliament.
