In a survey conducted in December 2019, about 34 percent of Japanese respondents agreed that Tokyo hosting the 2020 Summer Olympics would help increase their personal interest in watching parasports on TV or at the venues. With another approximately 35 percent somewhat agreeing to the statement, an overall majority of around 69 percent foresaw their personal interest in disabled sports increasing due to the 2020 Olympics and Paralympics in Tokyo.
The Summer Olympics were scheduled to take place between 24 July and 9 August in 2020, being held for the second time in the Japanese capital.
