In a survey conducted in December 2019 in Japan, a majority of respondents in each age group up until 59 years old agreed that the Tokyo 2020 Olympics would be an opportunity to change Japan by improving the country's image and possibly increasing the number of foreign tourists. Around 20 percent of respondents aged 70 years and older by comparison disagreed to the statement to some extent.
The Summer Olympics were scheduled to take place between 24 July and 9 August in 2020, being held for the second time in the Japanese capital.
