Most stolen car brands in Belgium 2022

In 2022, around 5,300 cars have been stolen in Belgium. According to Belgian police registers, most of them were Volkswagen models. For instance, 689 Volkswagen cars have been stolen around the country in 2022. In addition, Renault and Mercedes occupied the third and fourth positions of the most stolen car brands in Belgium.

Auto thefts in Belgium

Although auto thefts decreased in Belgium over the last decade, over five thousand cases were reported in 2020. From a regional perspective, roughly 1.4 thousand cases occurred in Flanders. In the same way, carjacking figures decreased in Belgium. In 2020, however, roughly 169 cars were stolen while drivers were behind the wheel.

Car sales in Belgium

Although Volkswagen was found guilty of environmental fraud in 2015, sales seemed rather unaffected in Belgium. For instance, in 2020, roughly 39.8 thousand thousand cars of this brand were sold in the country. On the other hand, Mercedes sales rose in Belgium, reaching over 35 thousand sales in 2018. Although Renault’s sales were higher than those of Mercedes, sales were rather unstable. Sales of Renault cars in Belgium peaked at 61 thousand sales in 2011 and fell as low as 44 thousand sales in 2014.
