Tropical cyclones are the most economically-devastating weather and climate disaster in the United States, accounting for more than half of the total costs from billion-dollar weather events. This was followed by severe storms and droughts, with a 17 and 13 percent share, respectively. Hydrological disasters may increase in intensity as a result of climate change, bringing more billion-dollar events.
