ER visits for mental health and addiction in Canada from 2017-2018, by jurisdiction
In 2017 to 2018, around 9.4 percent of Canadians who visited an emergency room for mental health or addictions were frequent visitors with four or more such visits over the course of a year. Mental health and addictions include mood disorders, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, personality disorders, substance-related and addictive disorders and other behavior disorders. Frequent visits to the emergency room may indicate that people are not able to access the services or support in the community they require to successfully manage their mental health and/or addictions. This statistic shows the age and sex standardized rate of frequent ER visits for help with mental health and/or addictions in Canada 2017-2018, by jurisdiction.
