The new National Stadium of Japan completed in November 2019 has a total area of approximately 192 thousand square meter. The building area of the stadium amounted to around 69.6 thousand square meter, more than double the size of the former National Stadium, which was demolished for the reconstruction, with roughly 33.7 thousand square meter. The National Stadium was planned to be used as the main stadium of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics held in Japan.
