Due to the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, it was estimated that Italy registered a decrease of approximately 232 million tourist overnight stays in 2020 over the previous year. As estimated, Veneto was the region recording the highest drop with a decrease of roughly 44.5 million overnight stays. Lombardy reported the second-highest decrease, losing about 28.7 million overnight stays between January and December 2020.
