Until 2018, cruise tourism experienced a growing popularity among Hong Kong consumers. Mainly due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of cruise passengers from Hong Kong dropped to 36 thousand in 2020, and only 4,000 in 2022.

According to the source, the passenger statistics are provided by CLIA's ocean cruise line members, which covered over 95 per cent of the global cruise industry capacity. Additional data was also collected from non-CLIA cruise lines by CHART Management Consultants.

To serve a consistent manner, one-night cruises were excluded in the analyses.

Data before 2019 were retrieved from the previous publications.
