Texas was the leading state in the U.S. based on microgrid penetration capacity, with 487 megawatts deployed in 2020. At that same time, New York ranked second, with 444 megawatts. By comparison, there was 84 megawatts deployed in Arizona.
Microgrids operate in connection to traditional centralized grids but are able to disconnect and operate autonomously. In the future, microgrid technologies are expected to become more prevalent in public sectors.
