Battery electric vehicles (BEV) accounted for almost two percent of the South Korean automobile market in 2019. BEVs are grouped together with plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and called electric cars. Altogether there were over 55 thousand electric cars registered with the authorities in Korea in the same year.
