As an indicator of customer satisfaction, no matter the size of a bank, one concern should be that the number of customers switching away from a bank's service outnumbers that of new customers switching to the bank. In 2022, NatWest gained more customers than it lost. Apart from the third quarter of 2022, NatWest's ratio of customer acquisition was relatively high. In 2023, customer retention dropped but remained positive. At the end of 2022, NatWest had approximately 19 million customers.
