The total number of knee replacement procedures conducted in England annually generally increased over the provided time interval until the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2009/10, approximately 72.6 thousand knee replacement procedures were carried out in England, this number increased had increased to almost 94 thousand by 2018/19. In the pandemic-affected year of 2020/21, there were only 31.1 thousand knee replacements carried out. This increased to 74 thousand procedures in 2021/22.
