Best universities in Romania 2023, by number of points

The Romanian research association Ad-Astra publishes a report on the best universities in Romania on an annual basis, taking into consideration national criteria, as well as international rankings. The best university in 2023 was Babeș-Bolyai University from Cluj-Napoca, with 22 points, followed by the University of Bucharest and the Carol Davila University from Bucharest, with 19 and 18 points respectively. When it comes to high schools, according to the School Inspectorate of the Bucharest Municipality, the National College of Informatics "Tudor Vianu" was the best high school in Romania’s capital based on the Baccalaureate exam and seven other performance criteria.

PISA score

The Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) is a study developed by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development that is repeated every three years, with the purpose of assessing 15-year-old school pupils’ performances in mathematics, science and reading. In 2022, Romania recorded a low PISA score in all three categories and was at least 50 points lower compared to the OECD average.
