In 2022, the northeastern state of Assam in India had the highest number of cyber crimes motivated by feelings of personal revenge when compared to the rest of the country. There were approximately 257 cases registered with the Assamese authorities that year. The state of Bihar came second with 112 registered cases. Overall, the country recorded approximately 857 cases of various cyber crimes with revenge as motive that year. These crimes came under the purview of numerous sections of the Indian Penal Code under Information Technology Act (Cyber crimes).
