At the beginning of March 2020, the Italian government imposed a national lockdown in order to limit the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. As of this month, Bologna only recorded 37 thousand domestic overnight stays. This was a dramatic drop compared to the figures recorded in March 2019, when the city registered 138 thousand domestic overnight stays.
