The majority of respondents, around 72 percent, expected the ride sharing economy in Japan to grow due to the convenience of the service, according to a survey conducted in June 2019. The survey revealed that only 11 percent of respondents in Japan considered household budget benefits to be the driving force behind a potential growth of carpool services in the country.
Since carpool services using private vehicles are prohibited in Japan, car sharing platforms predominantly offer cab-hailing services instead.
