Annual credit card and debit cards issued in the Netherlands 2000-2023
In the Netherlands, approximately two percent of payment cards issued were credit cards, reaching a total of over 0.4 million in 2021. Debit cards were found more often in the country, as that year there were around 22 million of these cards. In 2023, the number of debit cards increased to over 32 million, although the number of credit cards was not reported. The figures provided are estimates based on the data central banks have to supply. Owning a payment card does not immediately indicate it gets used, as there are considerable differences within Europe when it comes to the use of certain payment methods.
