In 2020, out of a total of 1,347 murder cases, 235 were qualified murders under Article 189 of the New Criminal Code, while the remaining 1,112 cases were covered by Article 188 of the New Criminal Code. As far as homicide is concerned, only 612 cases were closed by Romanian courts in 2020.
