According to a survey conducted by Rakuten Insight in November 2019, more than 68 percent of female and more than 61 percent of male Japanese respondents stated that they had tried functional beverages because of the purported health benefits. Around five percent of both genders drank functional beverages because of recommendations from people they knew.
