In 2018, Rosneft made the largest financial contribution to the federal budget of Russia among other major oil and gas companies, measuring at 2.5 trillion Russian rubles. Gazprom ranked second, transferring to the federal budget 1.8 trillion Russian rubles of energy export duties, mineral extraction tax payments, taxes on additional income from hydrocarbon extraction, and excise taxes on the crude oil sent to processing.
