Russia: least sober regions 2020

National sobriety ranking of Russia revealed that Komi Republic was the least sober location countrywide in 2019, with a 49.25 sobriety score. The Chukotka Autonomous Okrug listed in second place with roughly two points of difference from the leader in that year. The federal sobriety assessment project has been conducting an analytical study on sobriety levels across federal subjects of Russia for over five years already.

* For assessment of the degree of sobriety in regions, the following six criteria were used:
1. "The number of deaths by main classes and individual causes of death (alcohol poisoning)."
2. "The number of patients registered in medical institutions with a diagnosis of alcoholism and alcoholic psychoses."
3. “The number of crimes committed by persons under the influence of alcohol (unit)”.
4. "The regional volume of all alcoholic beverages sold in liters of pure alcohol."
5. “The number of offenses related to the illegal production and trafficking of ethyl alcohol and alcohol products (unit).”
6. “The strength of the regional anti-alcohol legislation,” was calculated on the basis of two sub-indicators
6.1. “Number of hours prohibiting the sale of alcohol per day” and
6.2. "The number of days in a year when the sale of alcohol is completely prohibited."

The total score for each region was calculated by summing the places occupied by this region according to each of the six basic criteria.
The lower the score, the the region and the higher the place it occupies.
