In 2023, 40 residents from the UK went to Dignitas in Switzerland for an accompanied suicide. The number of Britons travelling to Switzerland for assisted dying has generally increased since 2002, with the highest number of assisted suicides from Britain occurring in 2016 with 47. Assisted suicide is currently illegal in all parts of Great Britain, although a law to legalize assisted dying for the terminally ill in England and Wales has been proposed. Votes on the bill begin on the 29th of November 2024.
