In 2022, the number of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) cases registered in Spain amounted to around 73,000. Figures showed a sharp increase compared to 2011, when Spanish primary health care services attended about 3,500 patients with post-traumatic stress disorder. This mental and behavioral disorder is triggered by a traumatic event experienced by the patient, causing symptoms such as disturbing thoughts, mental or physical distress, and continuous feelings of fear.
