The share of Yandex search engine users on smartphones in Russia was forecasted to increase after the law requiring to pre-install Russian-made software would come into force on July 1, 2020. In particular for smartphones running on Apple iOS, this share was predicted to reach 56 percent by 2024, compared to 41.5 percent in 2019.

The Russian app software law refers to the Russian legislation that requires producers of smartphones, computers, and smart TVs to have Russian-made application software pre-installed. The law was to into effect on July 1, 2020, but was postponed until April 1, 2021.
