A SARS-like coronavirus outbreak has been spreading in China since December 2019. To combat the virus which originated in Wuhan, the government has announced emergency measures including speeding up medical mask production. As of the end of April, 2020, China was producing around 450 million medical masks daily, implying a steep rise in production capacity utilization rate. The country exported several billions of medical supplies as the coronavirus pandemic worsened across the world.
