At 61 percent, the reduction of traffic jams was the most common expectation that survey respondents from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City had for the new metro systems in their respective city. Apart from having a positive effect on their cities' traffic situation, other popular expectations held among urban citizens towards the metro systems included safe commute at 55 percent and reduction of time spent in transit at 50 percent.
