In the second half of 2021, there were approximately 1.15 million fixed-line telephone subscribers in the Dominican Republic, up from 795 thousand in the first half of 2019. After a decline in recent years, the sudden boom in the number of fixed-line phone subscribers may be largely attributed to the need for Dominicans to maintain communication from their homes as a result of the COVID-19 confinement. Similarly, the number of fixed-line internet subscribers also grew during this semester.
